Good news if you're in the market to buy a laptop computer: The price is coming down.

The Wall Street Journal reports the average price of a laptop is now about $1,000, down from $1,250 last year and $1,640 in 2001.

Some are selling for even less.

Limited demand had kept the prices up, but all that has changed with more college students using laptops.

Pollster Student Monitor LLC says nearly three-quarters of college-age students who plan to buy a new computer in the next year intend to purchase a laptop.

Just four years ago, less than 16 percent of students surveyed owned a laptop.

The lower prices can also be attributed to the same components used in laptops being used in other devices like iPods and TVs.
