Queen Elizabeth II joined hundreds of other proud relatives on Thursday to watch her grandson Prince William and other students from the University of St. Andrews collect their degrees.
William spent four years at Scotland’s oldest university studying geography. He started his university career studying history of art, before switching courses.
He was awarded an upper-second honors degree, the second highest undergraduate award available.
His father, Prince Charles, who also attended the graduation ceremony, was only awarded a lower-second degree from Cambridge.
William, who celebrated his 23rd birthday on Tuesday, was largely left alone by the media while studying at the picturesque university created in 1413, but coverage has already started to increase.
Several newspapers have run stories about his life as an undergraduate and speculation about possible girlfriends.
The prince, who inherited the blond hair and good looks of his mother who was killed in a Paris car crash in 1997, lived a fairly typical student life in the quiet cathedral city, about 30 miles north of Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh.
Although he has given no definite answer as to what he will do after university and before he one day becomes king, he has hinted about a military career.
