Vivendi Universal SA's video-games unit, VU Games, exercised an option to acquire Canadian games developer Radical Entertainment Inc., Vivendi Universal said Wednesday.
Terms were not disclosed.
In February, VU Games signed an exclusive agreement with privately held Radical to develop six titles, acquiring the right to buy the firm at any time.
Radical is best known for developing games such as "The Hulk" and "The Simpsons: Hit and Run." It develops games for a variety of platforms, including Gameboy, XBox and Playstation 2.
Vivendi, the French media and telecommunications company, said it will retain Radical's 200 employees and named president and chief executive Ian Wilkinson as president of the company's new Radical Entertainment unit. Wilkinson founded the Vancouver, British Columbia-based company in 1991.
Vivendi had 2004 revenue of $27.83 billion.
