House Majority Leader Tom DeLay was treated for a heart condition Thursday at Bethesda National Naval Medical Center, his office said.

The Texas Republican was released and returned home after a series of tests. He intends to stick to his plans to go to Florida, Georgia and Texas this weekend.

Capt. Michael Curran, the head of cardiology at the hospital, said in a statement that the 57-year-old Delay, who met doctors at the Capitol and then Bethesda after experiencing minor fatigue, has a condition known as arrhythmia, or an irregular heartbeat.

Curran said DeLay’s personal doctor in Texas has monitored this condition for years.

“After completing a series of tests and successful treatment of the arrhythmia, I discharged Mr. DeLay so he could return to his residence and rest in comfort for the remainder of the day,” Curran said.
