Trucking company Yellow Roadway Corp. is in talks to acquire trucking and logistics concern USF Corp., the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing a person familiar with the matter.
The article, which said the talks are at a delicate stage and could fall apart, said the deal could be valued at more than $1 billion.
The companies could not immediately be reached for comment.
Like others in the transportation industry, Yellow Roadway has benefited from robust freight volumes amid the U.S. economic expansion and surge in global trade. Tight capacity in the truckload sector has also given companies such as Yellow Roadway pricing power for the first time in years, which is reflected in margin improvements.
