Merger talks between Verizon Communications and MCI Inc. have advanced, and the two companies could announce a deal in the next few days, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.
The newspaper, citing people close to the situation, said certain issues such as the exact price of the deal “remained fluid” on Thursday night. The Journal said the issues could be worked out soon.
But the newspaper said talks still could fall through because there were other parties interested in MCI, including Qwest Communications International Inc.
On Thursday, the Journal said Verizon floated an informal acquisition offer for MCI and that the offer was priced near the Qwest Communications tentative offer of $6.3 billion.
