THE EU CONSTITUTION: The landmark document, achieved after 28 months of negotiation, aims to provide simpler voting rules to end gridlock in the European Union. It includes a charter of fundamental rights and ends national vetoes in 45 new policy areas.
THE SIGNING: The 25 EU member nations signed the document Friday, allowing it to take effect once ratified.
UP NEXT: Member nation parliaments must now ratify the constitution, and at least nine countries plan to put it to a referendum. One "no" vote and the document won't take effect.
