Advanced Micro Devices Inc. said on Tuesday it plans to demonstrate a new chip with two processing units, as it competes with Intel Corp. to ramp up technology for microprocessor chips.
AMD said the chip, designed for corporate customers and due to be available in the middle of 2005, aimed to boost processor performance without significantly increasing power consumption and heat dissipation.
AMD, based in Sunnyvale, California, said it would demonstrate a Hewlett-Packard ProLiant DL585 server powered by four of its "dual-core" Opteron processors.
On Sunday, Santa Clara, California-based Intel, the world's largest chipmaker, said it was on track to introduce the industry's most advanced chip production technology in its products next year.
