Internet users will be able to register domain names with the ending ".eu" by the end of this year, the director of the Italian Institute for Information Technology (IIT) said on Friday.
Italy, together with Belgium and Sweden, in May last year won the right to manage the .eu domain name that is intended to give a specifically European aspect to Web sites and email addresses.
"Registrations of the .eu domain name will start in the last three months of this year," IIT Director Franco Denoth told Reuters.
The European Centre for Public Affairs in Brussels has said .eu registrations will be made on a first-come first-served basis.
