Andrea Mitchell gave us a window to the Texas Republican’s media sensitivity on Thursday’s Morning Joe.
“I was on Morning Joe at 6 o’clock in the morning the day after his first appearance on Meet the Press back in January. He had just been elected and he was trashing everyone else and being very rude to Chuck Schumer who was saying you know my new colleague from Texas, the gentleman from Texas on Meet the Press the morning before,” Mitchell said.“And I then said, ‘this is a different kind of senator.’ He then came up to me at a Washington dinner a week later and said I was rude to him on Morning Joe. This guy has a different strategy than almost anybody we’ve ever seen come to Washington.”
Mitchell appeared on Morning Joe on Jan. 11 when we broadcast from Washington, D.C.
At the time, she and host Joe Scarborough criticized the then very-fresh senator for his appearance on a Sunday talk show the morning before, where Mitchell said he was particularly combative.
“It was a very unusual performance by a freshman senator who clearly doesn’t want to get along, he wants to start a fire,” Mitchell said at the time.
