A new Gallup poll shows that 43% of uninsured people in the United States are not aware that they’ll have to buy health insurance next year as a part of the new health care law–otherwise known as “Obamacare.”

This poll–and the public’s overall uncertainty about what exactly is in the law–arrives as the Obama administration has pursued last-ditch efforts to promote the legislation.

Three months from now, on October 1, the law’s exchanges for enrollment will open, giving us the first real glimpse of Obamacare in action. But until then, with over 48 million Americans uninsured, nonprofit initiatives are playing a big role in filling in the gaps. One of those groups is the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NAFC), which will team up with MSNBC’s Reverend Al Sharpton to host a free health care clinic in New Orleans on Wednesday, July 3.

On Monday, NAFC’s Executive Director, Nicole Lamoureux joined the NOW with Alex Wagner panel to discuss the importance of free clinics, the future of health care and why Republican governors are refusing to expand Medicaid in their states.
