President Obama embarked on his first major political trip to Africa this week. On the agenda is a stop in Senegal, South Africa, and Tanzania where the president is meeting with leaders to discuss African economic development. His trip comes at a significant time for the continent as former President Nelson Mandela remains in stable but critical condition. On Sunday’s Melissa Harris-Perry, our host and panel will chronicle Mandela’s political legacy and the links between the two leaders from being the first black presidents of their respective countries to the interconnected civil rights movements in America and South Africa.

Our conversation on the African economy continues as we add China into the mix. Our panel will explore the reasons powerful countries like China are investing in one of the globe’s fastest growing economies and how the US plans to join them.

With all of the political excitement this week, you may have missed the comprehensive climate speech President Obama delivered at Georgetown University on Tuesday. Sunday’s show will catch you up with our panel of climate experts, including Josh Fox, the director of Gasland and the upcoming Gasland2, and the Center for American Progress’s Danielle Moodie-Mills. They will discuss President Obama’s new plan to reduce greenhouse emissions and battle the effects of climate change domestically and internationally as well as the president’s unexpected comments on the controversial Keystone Pipeline.
