Coast Guard Group North Bend (Oregon) renamed Sector North Bend

SEATTLE, Wash. (USGC) - Coast Guard Group / Air Station North Bend, located in North Bend, Oregon was officially renamed Sector North Bend Friday, June 21 to match the Coast Guard standards of mission support and execution. “The men and women of Sector North Bend will continue to provide the same outstanding level of service that has been put forth since the unit was opened in 1974,” said Captain Mark Reynolds, commander of Sector North Bend. "The only difference the public may notice is how we identify ourselves on marine radio broadcasts, how we answer the phone and the name change on our new unit welcome sign." The sector construct has been established as the Coast Guard’s uniform field structure. Renaming Group/Air Station North Bend to Sector North Bend is necessary to better align the unit with existing Coast Guard Sector organizational construct. The renaming involves no physical changes to facilities, operations or staffing levels. The name change will only reorganize the unit to ultimately improve mission performance. There will be no change in the way the public receives services from the Coast Guard units. Sector Columbia River will continue to enforce marine environmental protection regulations, oversee port safety and maintain aids to navigation. Sector North Bend will continue to coordinate search and rescue missions and support Sector Columbia River in its MEP-related efforts. Group/Air Station North Bend was the final legacy group in the Coast Guard to be transitioned under the multi-year sector modernization effort.
