Just two days after the Human Rights Campaign's hugely successful social media campaign for marriage equality, the NRA launched its own attempt Wednesday night, urging followers to "stand and fight" and "show your support for our right to keep and bear arms."

The NRA’s Tweets and Facebook posts prompt users to change their profile photos to the image above in a public show of support for the right to bear arms.
The timing of the campaign is particularly cringe-worthy to gun control advocates: Thursday morning marked the release of the Newtown, Conn. search warrant findings, as well as the unveiling of the Bloomberg-backed Mayors Against Illegal Guns’ new ads featuring parents of children killed in the Newtown mass shooting.
