It's tough to read while you're doing your hour on the elliptical machine. The up-and-down motion can cause dizziness. But one innovative New Yorker may have a solution.
What looks like a Bluetooth earpiece for a smartphone is actually a stabilizing device that makes it easier to read while working out.
Worn over the ear, the Run-n-Read uses motion sensors and tiny controllers built into the device to sync your head movements with a tablet. The device tracks your head movements and then adjusts the text on the screen so that it bounces around in time to your pace.
It can be used with most cardiovascular workout machines, such as treadmills, elliptical trainers, stepmills, StairMasters and stationary bikes.
The Run-n-Read is one of several hundred entries in New York's Next Top Maker contest. Sponsored by the New York City Economic Development Corporation, the contest drew entries from local engineers and designers with product ideas that needed professional help, such as 3D design support, to be manufacture-ready. If chosen as one of the contest's six finalists (online voting begins March 8), maker Aditya Bansal will participate in the Studio phase of the contest, during which he'll develop his gizmo for production.
