The Supreme Court gave strong indications on Wednesday that it might strike down a section of the Voting Rights Act as the court’s more conservative justices consider the provision as outdated and unfair.
The Supreme Court raised concerns Wednesday about central parts of an election law born from the civil rights struggles of the 1960s, or the Voting Rights Act. After the Supreme Court heard oral arguments challenging the act, NBC’s Pete Williams reported, “I think it’s a safe prediction to say that the Voting Rights Act, as it now stands, is not going to survive.
