Team offering QB minimum to back up Boller

Free-agent quarterback Kordell Stewart is mulling a contract offer from the Baltimore Ravens that apparently would pay him around the minimum salary.

Agent Leigh Steinberg said that Stewart had not decided as of early last night whether to accept the offer. Stewart would back up Kyle Boller in place of Anthony Wright, who underwent shoulder surgery yesterday and said, according to the Associated Press, that he was told by doctors not to resume throwing for four months.

The Ravens also could wait to see if Tampa Bay's Brad Johnson becomes available if Rich Gannon is released by the Oakland Raiders and joins the Bucs.

Oakland completed a deal with quarterback Kerry Collins yesterday, signing him to a three-year contract worth about $16 million, including a signing bonus of about $1.5 million. Collins, 31, was released by the New York Giants when he refused to rework his contract after the draft-day trade for Eli Manning. Oakland likely will release Gannon if he refuses to reduce his $7 million salary.
