As Americans prepare to celebrate Independence Day on July 4, Msnbc.com is launching a special World News feature, “What the World Thinks of U.S.” to examine the current global perception of the United States and what “America” means to those outside its borders. Leveraging the global resources of NBC News, this broad digital report includes video, stories, and interviews from journalists such as Richard Engel, Ayman Mohyeldin, Ali Arouzi, Amna Nawaz, Rohit Kachroo, Tazeen Ahmad and Atia Abawi. With only months to go until the presidential election, and over ten years since the 9/11 attacks, reports seek to measure America’s global stature in the eyes of China, Pakistan, Germany, South Africa, Thailand, Afghanistan, the United Kingdom, Israel, Iran, Egypt and Cuba.

Interviews feature a Pakistani lawyer fighting for the rights of drone victims, a young Chinese web entrepreneur, the Afghan leader charged with transitioning the country from U.S. to Afghan control, members of the Muslim Brotherhood in Cairo, an American couple who moved to Jerusalem to make a life there, residents of Johannesburg’s Soweto neighborhood, an elderly German man who has spent more than 60 years of his life working and volunteering at the U.S. Army’s European headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany, and more.

The series launches today with reports from Amna Nawaz in Pakistan and NBC News producer, Bo Gu, in China. New reports will run through July 4. For more, visit http://worldnews.msnbc.msn.com/.
