The PlayStation Vita has already seen its fair share of great games, but very few take full advantage of the system’s controls, such as its motion sensors.

If you really want to put them to the test (and have fun doing it), check out "Gravity Rush," a thrilling adventure from Sony Japan Studios.

The game puts you in control of Kat, a newcomer to the city of Hekseville who gains the ability to manipulate her gravity. This allows her to walk on walls and ceilings, and also guide flying attacks at airborne enemies, mainly the big glob-like creatures that are the Nevi. As you progress through the game, you’ll gain access to new abilities, such as carrying objects in your gravity field and performing stylish new attacks. Hekseville gives you plenty to do (regular and side missions are everywhere) and plenty of hidden gems to collect (scattered across, where else, ceilings, walls and the sky). But it’s also a dazzling place to explore. Sony Japan has created a wondrous fantasy world here. At one point, you even stumble upon a dream-like oasis. As for the gameplay, it takes a little while to get used to the gravity-shifting effects – and we don’t recommend it if you tend to feel motion sickness. Along with traditional game controls and some great combat techniques, you can use the system’s motion-sensing abilities to move around and locate your next landing place. The main touch screen allows you to pinpoint your next location (which is shown in real time in the actual city), as well as dodge incoming attacks.

"Gravity Rush" stands out as one of the more dynamic games you can find for the PlayStation Vita. It’s quite entertaining, with hours worth of content to explore and the kind of visual beauty you rarely see. Playing through it, you just might recall singer Lionel Richie's words, "Oh what a feeling, when we're dancing on the ceiling."

RATING: 3.5 / 4
