As of today (April 6), the upstart photo sharing community is the third most popular social network behind Facebook and Twitter, according to Internet statistician Experian. More than 27 million pinners can now select a photo from each of their boards as the "cover photo." Pinterest redesigned its profile layout earlier this month to make photo boards far more prominent, so people could easily decide whether to follow another pinner based on what they saw. Pinterest received a flood of suggestions from users following that change, co-founder Ben Silbermann wrote on the company blog. Top of the list? Choosing a cover photo. Up until the change, pinners had no choice but to go with the last photo they pinned to a board, which Pinterest automatically placed as the cover. Here's how to make your own choice: Now you can drag it up or down within the frame to capture the part you want to display. (There are no editing features, so you can't size your photo.) When you like what you see, hit "Set Cover." You can also choose a board cover while you’re browsing within your board: Just mouse over any of your pins to select it. The cover photo feature does not apply to the Pinterest app on iPhone , where profiles do not include board previews. It's nice to know the Pinterest team responds to requests from pinners — a group that obsesses over picture-perfect details.
