Firefighters were battling to gain control of a wildfire on Sunday, NBC13 reported.
It was not clear what started the blaze, authorities said.
Birmingham fire crews responded to Lake Purdy Dam Road at about 11:30 a.m.
The blaze was growing at such a rapid rate that there was concern it would spread over a hill and threaten homes on Sickard Hallow Road.
The state Forestry Commission had been called to the scene, authorities said.
About 15 acres had burned by Sunday night.
