A state Senate committee approved legislation Tuesday that would make it illegal to intentionally harm an unborn fetus.
The committee received a letter in support of the bill recently from Sharon Rocha, whose daughter, Laci Peterson, was killed in California a month before she was due to give birth.
California's murder law includes the unlawful killing of a fetus.
Abortion rights advocates submitted testimony against the Maryland bill, saying it grants "personhood" to a fetus, 11 News reported.
