A man who asked police for help in getting a little gas to his car ended up in handcuffs after Covington police said he was in possession of stolen license plates and had narcotics inside.
Covington police said at about 3 a.m. Thursday, 35-year-old Eric Carter contacted the Covington Police Department and told officers that he had run out of gas and needed police assistance.
When officers arrived at the corner of Collins Boulevard and West 33rd Avenue, they found Carter’s vehicle parked, and officers called a wrecker to bring him some gas.
However, when the officer gave the license plate to the radio operator, she said the plate was stolen.
When police searched the 2003 Grey Lincoln Navigator, they found a second license plate, which was also reported stolen, and a small bottle of hydrocodone pills.
Officers ran Carter’s information and said they found an active fugitive warrant with the Hammond Police Department.
Carter was arrested on charges of stolen items, a fugitive warrant in Hammond and possession of a schedule III narcotic.
He was booked in the St. Tammany Parish Jail.
