Twinlab Corp., a nutritional supplement maker owned by IdeaSphere Inc., said Friday it believes that its products containing androstenedione, a precursor to testosterone, are “safe and effective when used as directed.”
The firm said it disagrees with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s warning letter about products containing ”andro.” The FDA on March 11 sent warning letters to 23 companies that distribute supplements containing androstenedione, claiming that using the compound involved significant health risks.
When IdeaSphere bought Twinlab, it also acquired inventory of an androstenedione product called Twinlab Andro Fuel that is currently being phased out of the market, Twinlab said.
