Roosters, rabbits, doves and baby chicks were taken from two homes in South Philly during an undercover investigation, according to the PSPCA.

Dozens of birds and even some eggs out of two homes in South Philadelphia on Wednesday, law enforcement officials and the Pennsylvania SPCA said.

They seized them as part of a undercover investigation into an alleged cockfighting and bird-breeding operation.

In all, they found 46 roosters, 15 doves, 15 rabbits, two dozen baby chicks and 13 eggs that were incubating.

Humane Law Enforcement Officers went into one home in the 3000 block of North Reese Street first, and then a second one four doors down.

No one was living in either home -- they were being used for breeding and training, according to investigators.

"They use these animals for fighting, especially the level that these people are fighting the birds at," said George Bengal of the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Police said they have a person they want to question in the case.
