The flight crew testing a next-generation Boeing jumbo jet made a long trip for a taste of Pittsburgh's most famous sandwich.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports the crew manning a new $300 million 747-8 Freighter jet made the scheduled 2,500-mile test flight from outside Seattle to western Pennsylvania. While the plane was on the ground in Pittsburgh, the crew called in an order to go for a Primanti Bros. sandwich. The joint is famous for its sandwich stuffed with fries and slaw.

"It's kind of sacrilege, but I got my (Primanti's Capicola & Cheese) sandwich without the cole slaw," flight test director Paul Shank told the Tribune-Review.

The jet made the flight as the aircraft maker wraps up reliability testing with a series of cross-country flights.

Boeing expects to begin delivering the 747-8 Freighter this summer and its passenger sibling to airlines starting in 2012.

Paul Shank said that the crew will sample pasties from Michigan's Upper Peninsula and lobster rolls from Maine on future test flights.
