The missing leg of a pedestrian who was killed in a hit-and-run crash Sunday in Mesa has been found on the rooftop of a building near the scene of the collision.
Mesa police Sgt. Ed Wessing said in a statement Thursday that the lower-left leg of the victim was found after police returned to the scene of the collision after finding no evidence when they recovered the suspect's vehicle.
The leg was found on the roof of one of a building at Uncle Bob's Storage, 545 W. Broadway Road, about 160 feet from the point of collision on the road.
Jose DeJesus Padilla-Rodriguez, 23, faces two counts of failure to stop at a serious injury or fatal collision and two counts of failure to remain at a serious injury or fatal collision, both felonies.
He told investigators he was aware he struck two pedestrians and did not stop to render aid.
The hit-and-run occurred about 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the 400 block of west Broadway Road. Two men were walking to their nearby apartment after leaving a bar when the eastbound car struck both of them. The survivor was severely injured but is in stable condition.
