During a baseball game at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., more than 27,000 fans donned lucha libre-style masks, the style worn in professional Mexican wrestling. This effort set the Guinness World Record for the most people wearing costume masks.
The record attempt took place on May 10 at the Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., during a game between the Anaheim Angels and the Chicago White Sox. As fans entered the stadium, they were given the lucha libre-style wrestling masks emblazoned with the Angels' logo.
John Rozak, the Angels' promotions representative, came up with the idea to go for the record and coordinated the planning and organization of the attempt. Guinness World Record judges and stadium ushers counted all of the participants, who were required to wear the masks for 10 minutes, according to GWR guidelines. The designated 10-minute time period was scheduled for the top of the game's fifth inning.
The total number of participants was 27,080, setting a new world record for the most people wearing costume masks. GWR officially announced the new record on June 1.
