Mary Hart, who has worked on CBS' "Entertainment Tonight" for nearly three decades, was presented with the Guinness World Records title of longest-serving entertainment news host on May 11.
Hart began her career as an anchor for the daily TV series "Entertainment Tonight" on Sept. 19, 1982, and her final show is scheduled to be on May 20th, 2011. Hart gained the longest-serving entertainment news host record title for working a grand total of 28 years and 250 days with the show.
Hart's accomplishment was celebrated on the May 11 episode of the show, which was filmed on a large balcony overlooking Times Square in New York City. She was presented with an official Guinness World Records certificate by a GWR judge and Regis Philbin, who stopped by the show as a surprise. Philbin currently holds a Guinness World Record for having the most hours on U.S. television, with over 17,000 hours to date.
After Hart accepted the certificate, a 20-piece orchestra band pulled up beneath the balcony in a double-decker bus and serenaded the host with the "Entertainment Tonight" theme song.
