A New York man about to start a second trial for the 2005 samurai sword slaying of his sleeping stepfather has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Prosecutors say 24-year-old Zachary Gibian will be sentenced later this month to 25 years in prison.

Gibian had been convicted of nearly beheading Scott Nager as he slept on a couch at home in Hauppauge, on Long Island, east of New York City. But the state's highest court found errors and ordered a new trial.

Gibian testified that Nager sexually abused him. He said his mother found out and killed Nager, a retired New York Police Department officer. His mother denied the allegations and wasn't charged.

Prosecutors say Gibian admitted in Monday's plea there was no sexual abuse.

Gibian says he "snapped" and attacked his stepfather after arguing with him for months.
