It's not just spring showers but spring snow that greeted parts of the United States on Monday, as storm fronts moved across much of the nation.
In the South, up to four inches of snow was possible in the mountains of western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee, according to the Weather Channel.
Snow is also forecast in parts of the Midwest, especially the Dakotas and eastern Kentucky, and along the Rockies and in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest.
More rain was forecast for parts of the Southeast, which saw a stormy weekend with large hail. Severe storm watches were issued in parts of Florida.
On Sunday, severe thunderstorms raked the Southeast with scattered tornadoes, large hail and high winds for a second straight day.
The storms pelted parts of Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina with hail stones, some as large as softballs, but no serious damage was reported.
The world's largest hail on record, measured at 8 inches in diameter, fell in Vivian, S.D., on July 23, 2010.
