MELVILLE, N.Y., Feb. 28, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA), the largest anesthesia management company in the United States, is proud to announce the release of a whitepaper that provides hospital executives and administrators a framework for developing and transitioning to an anesthesia department that is aligned with the mission of the organization.

"It is no longer good enough for an anesthesia department to provide excellent clinical quality. Hospitals expect the department to drive OR efficiency," stated Timothy Dowd, MD, Managing Partner & Chairman of NAPA. "This paper outlines the services and results a hospital should expect from their anesthesia department, and what to expect in a leadership transition."

Most transitions, though not simple, can be managed to appear easy. NAPA noted the issue with the anesthesia department is almost never clinical, but is usually a matter of leadership. NAPA rarely replaces anesthesia providers, but always adds qualified and experienced leadership to the team.

John Malone, President and CEO of Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pennsylvania shares his experience in the paper saying, "I got a tremendous amount of push back from surgeons, medical staff, and the board when we started considering an anesthesia department transition. Now when I go to department meetings or medical staff meetings, I get, 'Why didn't we do this sooner?'"

The is the first in a series of whitepapers that will be offered by NAPA that focus on how anesthesia can improve OR Efficiency.
