OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Jan. 25, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- RiskAnalytics, LLC, a leading provider of cost-effective, governance, risk management and compliance (GRC) solutions for data security, today announced its new AutoShun® service. AutoShun is a dynamic, inline packet filter that helps safeguard organizations from Crimeware and other external threats that target a company's sensitive information and other electronic assets.

"The loss or theft of electronically stored, personally identifiable information (PII) or protected health information (PHI) may pose the single greatest risk to corporate profits," said David Frankland, president and CEO of RiskAnalytics. "Yet the risk to sensitive data is one of the areas with the least visibility at the executive level."

Using heuristic, behavioral, and rule-based algorithms to analyze global attack information, AutoShun bi-directionally blocks at-risk IP addresses – including those controlled by the Russian Business Network (RBN), Zeus, and other Crimeware compromised sites in real-time. Patent-pending technology enables AutoShun to simultaneously manage more than 4 billion IP addresses – more than all IP addresses currently in existence. AutoShun's threat data is instantly updated whenever a new risk is identified – 24x7.

"The cyber criminal only has to be successful one time to significantly damage an organization's reputation and financial stability," said Thomas Currie, chief technology officer for RiskAnalytics. "In fact, with the average cost per lost record exceeding $200, a loss of customer data can have devastating consequences for any organization – regardless of size."

Several things differentiate AutoShun from other security services including antivirus software and firewalls. Antivirus software is designed to protect Windows, Linux and Mac-based servers and workstations, not networks or sensitive information. AutoShun stops network attacks by blocking the criminal's access from outside the network and stopping infected computers inside the network from communicating with Crimeware operators.

Firewall attacks are normally validated via manual review processes. By the time the decision is made on how to respond, the attack has already been carried out and sensitive data potentially lost. AutoShun eliminates these timing limitations by issuing real-time commands to block threats from at-risk and potentially hostile IP addresses.

AutoShun provides full administrative control allowing users to create a customized Shunlist to block an entire continent, region, or country from accessing a company's network. For example, if an organization does not have legitimate business relationships within North Korea or Somalia, a user can blacklist all IP addresses from those countries. Exceptions for a specific business or organization located within the blocked area can also be made. Subscribers have access to a secure web page where they can view threat reports and other performance indicators specific to their organization.

AutoShun is the latest addition to RiskAnalytics' family of risk management and compliance solutions. AutoShun is marketed both as a stand-alone service and bundled with RiskAnalytics' GRC data security solution, Cyber-Risktools®, which helps simplify compliance with federal and state data security regulatory requirements including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA).
