The Coast Guard is investigating a diesel spill in Boston Harbor after a sheen on the water was reported earlier on Saturday.

Massachusetts State Police and the Coast Guard responded to an 800 by 20-foot fuel spill that is beginning to dissipate on its own, said Coast Guard spokesman Petty Officer James Rhodes.

Despite the fairly large coverage of the spill, Rhodes said the density was a very thin layer on the surface.

The Coast Guard continues to look for the source of the leak, Rhodes said.

Massachusetts State Police provided the Coast Guard with one vessel from its marine unit and a helicopter for the response.
