A Davenport nursing home has been fined $10,000 in the death of resident injured during an outing.
The Quad-City Times reports the Iowa Department of Inspection and Appeals found Ridgecrest Village didn't ensure the safety of 97-year-old Corine Armentrout during a Nov. 19 outing.
Armentrout and another resident were hurt in the incident, and Armentrout died Dec. 1. The state attributed her death to congestive heart failure caused by a broken leg and blood loss.
A state report says the driver of their van suddenly stopped in traffic, throwing the residents from their wheelchairs. The report says the driver told investigators he had secured the wheelchairs in the vehicle but didn't fasten the residents' safety belts.
Calls to three numbers listed for the nursing home rang unanswered Saturday.
