MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A south Alabama man has been sentenced to a year in prison after pleading guilty to spraying anti-Semitic graffiti on a Jewish synagogue. The Justice Department announced Friday that 24-year-old Thomas Hayward Lewis admitted to violating federal civil rights law when he scrawled slurs on the Congregation Tree of Life Messianic Synagogue in Mobile in January 2009. Lewis also pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of an unregistered firearm. Authorities say Thomas' accomplice, Christian Rodney Ice, pleaded guilty in March 2010 to damaging religious property and agreed to assist law enforcement authorities.
