WASHINGTON, Jan. 10, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Homeland Security & Defense Business Council today released its fifth monograph in its 9/10/11 Project, focusing on the nation's dependence on our critical infrastructure, and the steps the public and private sector take to protect it.

Few people realize the extent of their interaction with and dependence on our critical infrastructure.

In fact until 9/11, we as a nation had not imagined scenarios that could unearth our vulnerabilities as directly as the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The result of the 9/11 attacks was a devastating emotional ripple-effect that served as a catalyst for government and the private sector to unite against a common enemy and begin to address the new and limitless possibilities of deliberate attacks.

"We must initiate and then nurture conversations between sectors to maintain an active dialogue which includes all of our CIP stakeholders – both the public and private sectors – in a meaningful way," said Marc Pearl, Council President & CEO. "We must all take ownership of Critical Infrastructure Protection, whether it is a plan for a small business or a broader plan for the nation."

On the 10th of each month through September 2011, the Council will release a monograph that will provide a brief history of our security efforts on a specific topic, as well as an assessment of the future of that topic. Each monograph will include a running timeline (interactive on our website) illustrating the events, incidents, and critical government responses pertinent to that month's topic. Industry leaders will be made available for additional interviews. For more information on the project, visit .
