A Tennessee man who allegedly hacked into teen queen Miley Cyrus’ online accounts a couple of years ago has been arrested – but not for anything involving the baby-faced pop star.
Instead, Josh Holly, now 21, faces the much more serious charge of possessing stolen property with the intent to defraud. He’s accused of having about 200 credit-card numbers belonging to other people, according to a federal criminal complaint and the Nashville City Paper.
In mid-2008, Holly broke into Cyrus’ Gmail, MySpace and other online accounts, after, he said, he convinced a MySpace employee to give him administrative access. (Cyrus’ password for several accounts turned out to be a combination of her dog’s name and the year of her birth.)
Finding pictures of the then-15-year-old starlet in her underwear and wearing a wet T-shirt in the shower, Holly, who called himself “TrainReq” online, allegedly posted them on the Internet.
The young man, who told an FBI agent during the initial investigation into the Cyrus hacking that he’d made $110,000 from spamming within a matter of months, was picked up on the credit-card charges last Thursday and spent the New Year’s weekend in the Nashville jail before a initial court appearance Monday.
Holly could spend 10 years in prison and pay a $250,000 fine if convicted, according to PC World. He was released to his grandmother’s custody and faces a pre-trial hearing Jan. 12.
