Albuquerque police are searching for a gunman who opened fire Tuesday inside University of New Mexico Hospital.
Police spokeswoman Sgt. Trish Hoffman said officers are looking for 21-year-old Daniel Cesar Dominguez-Garcia in connection with the incident.
Hoffman says Dominguez was at the hospital with his girlfriend Tuesday afternoon when he became upset. Hoffman alleges he beat up his girlfriend, then fired a shot in the hallway.
"There was a female in the hospital with a child," Albuquerque Police Department Chief Ray Schultz said . "The child had been admitted and was in a room, when a boyfriend of the woman showed up at the hospital. There were other family members present. When all of a sudden the boyfriend was described as 'went off'. He started hitting the female."
No one was injured, but the hospital was locked down for about an hour while authorities searched for Dominguez.
Surveillance video showed him leaving the building after the shooting, police said.
Dominguez was wearing a white shirt, white shoes and black pants, according to KOAT. Citing police, KOAT said he was considered armed and dangerous.
