A four-alarm fire that tore through a condominium complex under construction Tuesday morning in New Jersey is under control.
Firefighters battled the flames at the three-story building — which was empty and under construction, local station NBC New York said. Rahway Fire Battalion Chief David Taylor said there were no injuries.
The four-alarm blaze began around 1:30 a.m. ET at the construction site in Rahway, about 25 miles west of New York City and was under control by 10:30 a.m. ET.
Rahway Fire Chief Bill Young told NBC New York that the intensity of the fire prevented firefighters from entering the building.
Route 27, which feeds into several main arteries connecting New Jersey to New York City, was closed for hours while an estimated 100 firefighters from 10 towns fought the blaze.
The wind carried smoke to the neighboring towns of Elizabeth and Linden, NBC New York reported.
