Arnold the pot-bellied pig was the star of Leipers Fork's Christmas parade, but he didn't survive the May flood. He's been replaced by Arnold II, whom a pig trainer calls spunkier than his predecessor.

There are Christmas parades in nearly every town and city in Middle Tennessee, but the Leipers Fork parade has a dilemma caused by the May flood.

"You have pigs and tractors and lawn mowers and different floats. You have septic trucks," said Jonathan Mercer.

For the last few years, Arnold the pot-bellied pig was the star of the parade.

"He was kind of the local celebrity of Leipers Fork," said Mercer.

But Arnold and the other rescued pigs on a Leipers Fork farm did not survive the May flood. So how will Arnold, the legendary pig of Leipers Fork, be replaced? With Arnold II and Arnold's sidekick, Frankie.

"This is Arnold II. Just like UGA, this is Arnold II," said Mercer.

"He's a little spunkier," said one pig trainer of Arnold II. "The first Arnold was a little slow. Last year, I got him a little too fat, and we had to stop the parade."

The parade has been moved to Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. Country artist Heidi Newfield is grand marshal.
