A set of metrics in the report quantifies the company's progress in a number of specific, key areas. For instance, since 2001 – when Steelcase pledged to reduce its global environmental footprint by 25 percent – the company has reduced its waste by 63 percent and greenhouse gas emissions by 59 percent. Steelcase has also reduced its water consumption by 71 percent since 2001, a seven percent increase from last year, and has reduced VOC emissions by 94 percent since 2001.
