Police were combing suburban Dallas, Texas, on Friday after a gunman held up a bank as staff arrived for work and then fled, NBC News reported.
"As the tellers were opening for work the armed man came in and robbed the bank and apparently left before police arrived," local FOX News affiliate KDFW reported. "As far as we know no one was injured."
Authorities surrounded Vintage Bank in Waxahachie after the heist, which occurred at around 7 a.m. local time. Police told The Dallas Morning News that the two-hour standoff was over and that by 9 a.m. everyone in the building was safe.
Two people, thought to be employees, had been locked in the vault during the robbery, NBC News reported.
The town's school district placed local schools on lockdown after the heist was reported.
"Due to the close proximity of Northside Elementary to Vintage Bank, district officials placed the elementary school into lockdown as a precautionary measure," Nicole Mansell, Director of Public Relations for Waxahachie's school district, said in a statement.
"The front doors at Northside Elementary are locked and officials are monitoring campus access," she added.
