A neighborly dispute over bananas has resulted in the arrest of a Port St. Lucie man.
Richard Jeff told police that he was walking in his back yard this week and picking up branches and debris when his 85-year-old neighbor Joseph Giacomo confronted him.
Jeff said Giacomo accused him of stealing bananas from his tree.
He says Giacomo pointed a gun at his head and threatened to shoot. He claims Giacomo was holding a black firearm that looked like an automatic weapon.
Police say when they questioned Giacomo he admitted confronting Jeff along the fence that separates their homes.
Giacomo says Jeff was carrying a big stick and believed he was using it to knock bananas off of Giacomo's tree.
He says Jeff denied taking any bananas. At that point Giacomo says he went back inside his home.
When asked whether he owned a firearm Giacomo said that he did. Police were given permission to enter his home and found a weapon in the nightstand next to Giacomo's bed. They say it matched the description given by his neighbor.
As a result, officers arrested Giacomo and charged him with aggravated assault with a firearm.
