An attempted robbery at a marijuana-growing operation sparked a deadly gunbattle that left one suspect dead and at least two other people wounded, authorities said.
At least 50 shots were fired during the home invasion Thursday in Lakebay, NBC station KING-TV reported.
Detective Ed Troyer, a spokesman for Pierce County Sheriff's Department, said that at least five heavily armed men raided the home.
Troyer said there was a "substantial" marijuana-growing operation at the property. He called the incident an "orchestrated drug rip-off."
The homeowner was among the people shot, police said. One of the suspects died at the scene.
Troyer told KING-TV that police received phone calls from other locations in the area from suspects claiming to have been wounded. Detectives were seeking at least three more suspects Friday.
Lakebay is located west of Tacoma.
