Kansas City police are investigating an attack on a 22-year-old woman who claims a weekend encounter at a motel left her with the word “hoe” cut into her chest.
The motel manager, however, told NBC affiliate KSHB that he questions the story.
According to a police report, the 22-year-old woman came to the Crown Lodge motel, 8500 Blue Parkway, with a man she met Saturday afternoon through a dating service.
Crown Lodge rooms cost less than $30 a night, KSHB said.
The two drank alcohol but got into an argument about sex, KHSB said, citing police reports. The man left the room about 7 p.m. with the room key. The woman told police she continued to drink a bottle of Long Island Iced Tea and went to sleep around 3 a.m. with a box cutter next to her.
Sometime between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m., she woke up, groggy, and saw a man in the room, she told police. He was pacing and calling her a “hoe,” slang for whore. She told police she wasn't sure if it was the man who had brought her to the motel.
She fell back asleep, and woke up around 9 a.m., feeling pain to her head and face. She saw her shirt and leggings had been torn and etched in her chest was the word “hoe”. She noticed the box cutter was missing. The woman told police she was not sure if she had been raped.
The woman was admitted Sunday to a Kansas City hospital. She had a large bump on the left side of her forehead and on her left cheek. Her face was also scratched.
“I see a lot of strange things in the transient lodging business,” Grover Clawson, general manager of the motel, told KSHB.
However, he said he cannot believe what is alleged in the police report released Monday.
“Basically, I think this is a shaggy dog story trying to drag us into it here,” Clawson told KSHB. “I’m not privy to a medical report. But, I believe that if something did in fact happen to this person, it happened elsewhere.”
Clawson told the station the motel was near capacity that night. He said no one complained about a disturbance, something he considers strange because rooms are close and walls are thin.
Police have no suspects in custody in the case.
