A person close to Republican U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski's campaign says she is expected to announce that she'll mount a write-in candidacy in a bid to hold onto her job.
Her announcement is expected to come at a rally Friday afternoon in Anchorage, according to the source, who asked not to be named because of the planned formal announcement.
The decision to launch a write-in bid follows Murkowski's surprise defeat last month by tea party-supported Joe Miller in last month's GOP primary.
Since then, Murkowski says she has received an outpouring of support from Alaskans urging her to stay in the race.
