The position is responsible for developing the front-end functionality to help execute the strategic vision of msnbc.com’s editorial, technical and creative leadership. Working with other developers and designers across teams and departments, the Foundry Developers build the core templates for the network’s proprietary content management system using C# and MVC. Working with project managers and testers with a creative approach to problem solving is a must.
Key responsibilities:
- Collaborate with other team members across teams and departments to build medium to large scale projects with timeframes ranging from 1 to 12 months.
- Ability to debug across multiple platforms, including data modeling, XSLT rendering, MVC, HTML, CSS and Javascript
- Document, review and unit test code with other project team members
- Work with editorial, technology, marketing and sales stakeholders to understand their unique needs on a per project basis
- Maintain strong interest in new internet technologies and platforms
Qualifications:
- BA/BS, design or computer science focus
- 3-6 years experience developing for online, preferably in media
- Strong background in C#
- Development experience with client-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, Javascript, third party platforms and APIs, as well as familiarity with technologies like Java, Django or Rails
- Strong communication, personal management and goal setting
- Ability to iterate quickly with designers to define and clarify requirements
- Comfortable with software development practices and product cycles across multiple platforms
- Strong interest in news content
