Msnbc.com is looking for an experienced editor for its Travel team. We are seeking someone who thrives in a fast-paced online newsroom and who is proficient handling breaking news situations. The ideal candidate will manage daily production of msnbc.com’s Travel section; browse wires and partners, edit content as needed, and write interesting, informative headlines and captions; edit staff and freelance stories and other original content; design section front grids and manage slices and subsection fronts, promote best material to cover and MSN; develop, edit and produce occasional special projects and packages; write occasional stories or produce original interactive pieces.
The position requires a minimum five years editing or producing news for a daily publication, preferably online.
Candidates will need to have at least two years of travel news experience; demonstrated experience in selecting top news stories, writing headlines and managing content; strong writing and copy editing skills; proficiency in standard computer applications, including Web-based tools; strong interest in social media and readiness to publish across multiple platforms; ability to learn new publishing software systems quickly.
