The deal: Miles away from the raucous beaches of Cancun, Mexico’s abundant natural resources flourish under the care of CESiaK (Centro Ecologico Sian Ka’an) — a sustainable tourism community that stresses awareness and education as much as it does relaxation and adventure.
Located on the Yucatan Peninsula, the resort is surrounded by heritage sites and the Mayan Ruins of Tulum, while providing a home to hundreds of species of wildlife.

The accommodations are constructed so that guests have continuous contact with their surroundings, showering with rainwater, using ventilation from the ocean breeze, and resting in the shade of outstretched palm fronds. All cabins have terraces or patios, and deluxe cabins are outfitted with hand-painted headboards and rocking chairs.
Built on the ruins of a former upscale resort, CESiaK now occupies the northern end of the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, using solar and wind power to generate electricity and sustainable sanitation systems for waste management. When not moonlighting as a ShermansTravel Earth Day special, CESiaK is committed to kindly educating visitors and offering myriad tours and activities, like kayaking, swimming, and visiting the Biosphere Reserve.
